249 years later and what have we learned?
As Joni Mitchell said , "you don't know what you got till it's gone"
Everyone should take a minute and think about what America has done that is good in the world, what has lifted humanity, what we are proud to hang on the wall. What do we stand for?
Anyone can be a bully, anyone can act superior, but to be superior, you have to be grateful, show kindness, compassion and help others carry the weight. That is the stuff I will be celebrating, yes I know freedom is not free and our strength is vital; but our strength should be used to protect ourselves and defeat the ones who seek to hurt others, we should never be known as the country that could have done something but turned a blind eye or worse, didn’t care; or the country that allows children anywhere to suffer, or starve if we can stop it. I am about saying "who can we help, how can we relieve suffering, where can we heal, Isn’t that what makes us a better country?
I do not celebrate taking from the poor to give to the rich, or acting as if there are hard working people among us that don't deserve to be treated decently and with compassion. I do not celebrate our government ripping families apart or demonizing the most vulnerable, My America includes all diversity especially where love is concerned. So let's celebrate what we really stand for, how we have made the world a better place and not what we stand against, who we exclude or who we judge just because they are different from us. I want to make America compassonate again, not Make America Hate Again. WHO ARE WE?
Manley
So true and so well written. Yes, who are we? I am sickened and saddened by the cruelty being perpetrated on the most vulnerable among us. It's no longer the enemy without but the enemy within, demolishing good with targeted and unrestrained evil. I will keep the faith and keep supporting the country I know we can be. Thank you, Manley. Let's celebrate the good.
